Ann Entsminger, a member of my Writers Guild, brought these to a literary gathering we had. They remind me of the lebkuchen my mother used to make.

Ann's Spicy Squares

1 c. raisins 1/2 t ground cloves
1/2 t nutmeg
dash of salt
1/2 cup nuts
2 cups flour
3/4 t baking soda

1. Boil together all ingredients except flour and baking soda for 3 minutes.
2. Stir in the flour and baking soda while mixture is hot.
3. Pour into greased 9 x 13” pan

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
