This recipe is from my old aluminum recipe box. I used to get apples free from Bob's cousin's apple tree. I would go up into the tree and shake it, and my kids and my mother-in-law would pick them up. I peeled and sliced the apples, then crammed them into a half-gallon milk carton, which was just enough for a pie. They would stay in the freezer that way for months.

Apple Pie

enough pastry for a two-crust pie

2/3 c sugar
1/4 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
8 medium sized apples or a half-gallon of frozen apples
margarine or butter

Heat oven to 425 °

1. Peel, core and slice the apples.
2. Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt in large bowl.
3. Stir in apples.
4. Pour into pastry-lined pie plate.(The apples need to be stacked high in the pie shell, as they cook down a lot!) Add apples if necessary.
5. Dot with margarine or butter.
6. Cover with top crust or lattice and seal the edges. Cut slits in the top.

Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust. (You may want to cover edges of crust with foil if they start to get too brown.)
