My mother used to make this, years ago, and I made it when my kids were home. I went to get the recipe one day, and it had disappeared. I sent an appeal to my friend Jodee in Arizona, and she found me a recipe that sounds just like my old one. She made it to test it, and the notes are hers.
Bishop's Bread
1/2 c butter
1 c sugar
4 eggs
2 and 1/4 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
Dash of salt
6 oz jar of maraschino cherries, drained
1 cup nut halves or large pieces (I used both walnuts and pecans to use up some nuts I had in the freezer)
6 oz chocolate chips (I used both traditional semi-sweet chocolate and white chocolate chips, again to use up some leftovers).
1. Cream eggs and sugar together. Beat in the eggs.
2. Add all dry ingredients and mix.
3.
Pour into greased and floured loaf pan.
Bake at 325 degree for 1 hour and 15 minutes (My bread in a regular size loaf pan only took about an hour.)
