Back in 2002 we visited Bob's cousin Carolyn Lenington in Massachusetts. She served us this cake. Last Sunday, in 2009, we were at Donna Archambault's house here in our Florida neighborhood and she served the identical cake. Donna was raised in Massachusetts. There's a connection here somewhere.
The basic recipe here is Carolyn's. Then below I've added a comment from Donna.
Skinny Chocolate Cherry Cake
1 package chocolate cake mix
1 can light cherry pie filling
3 eggs
1. Mix everything together.
2. Pour into a greased 9 inch by 13 inch pan. Bake 350° for 30 minutes or until done.
3. Can be frosted or served with whipped cream or ice cream.

Donna served this cake "frosted" with Cool Whip. That worked very well.
Donna said that the cake mixes with pudding in them work best. You get a more moist cake.
