Danish Sugar Cookies fill a recipe card front and back, written many years ago by my friend Jodee. Jodee taught Home Economics in a room next to my art room in Michigan for several years. Now she's in Arizona, and I'm in Florida, and we're still exchanging recipes and cookery.
Danish Sugar Cookies
3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
1 egg
2 c sifted flour
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 T hot water
1/2 tsp salt
1. Cream shortening and sugar.
2. Add egg and beat well.
3. Mix dry ingredients together. Gradually beat the mix in to first mixture.
4. Mix in 1 T hot water.
5. Roll into small balls. Flour hands as necessary.
6. Place on greased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
7. Dip a fork in hot water and press down the cookie balls, or use a cookie press to flatten them.
8. Sprinkle cookies with sugar and nutmeg or cinnamon.
Bake at 375° for about 12-15 minutes. Watch carefully! They burn quickly.
