This bread that Barb Lloyd in Michigan makes is wildly popular. She takes it as gifts to Mackinac Island when we go, and our friends up there ask about it right away when she comes. This is what she says about it:

Our friend Bob Prezewlocki was here and devoured an entire loaf. Banana bread can't hold a candle to it!

Fresh Apple Bread


Preheat oven to 350°
Grease and spray 2 loaf pans

2 c sugar
3 c flour
1 t baking soda
1 t baking powder
2 t cinnamon
3 c peeled finely chopped apple
1 c salad oil
3 eggs, beaten
2 t vanilla
1/2 c chopped walnuts

1. Mix sugar, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add apples and toss by hand.
2. Add salad oil, eggs, vanilla. Mix well.
3. Add nuts. Mix till blended. Batter will be very thick.
4. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans

Bake at 350 degrees until done. It will take an hour or so. Keep checking. Cool 5 minutes, turn out.
