When did Green Bean Casserole become an American classic for holidays along with the historical turkey, cranberries, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie? It had to be at least 40 years ago.

There are endless variations, of course. But this is the traditional, the classic, and the simplest recipe.

Classic Green Bean Casserole

1 can Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup
2 cans cut green beans (my son-in-law uses fresh beans)
1/2 c milk
salt and pepper to taste
1 3-oz can of French's Original French Fried Onions

1. Mix all ingredients except the onions in a casserole.
2. Spread the can of French Fried Onions on top.
3. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes.
