Lois Jordan is a member of my Writers Guild. She is a wonderful poet. Ellen is her life-long friend. Ellen had may children, so Lois' name for her was Ellen-Lived-in a Shoe, from the nursery rhyme about the Little Old Lady who lived in a shoe and had so many children she didn't know what to do.

Ellen and her children loved to make these brownies. The recipe evolved out of confusion of several young children trying to make brownies.

Lois served them once at a Writers Guild meeting, and we all raved about them. It takes some practice to make them, but the result is worth every minute of it.

Graham Brownies
Ellen-Lived-in-a-Shoe Brownies

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 pan.

2 inner packs of graham crackers, crushed fine.
2 cans sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
12 oz chocolate chips (1 and 1/2 c)

1. Mix chocolate chips into crushed crackers.
2. Mix in milk and stir into an even dough.
2. Spread in baking pan.

Bake for 20 minutes. Add up to 5 minutes if oven tends to be "cooler" in temperature. Do NOT overbake. Check for a beginning to brown on edges. Center can be sticky when the brownies are done.

Lois: Practice will help the baker know when baking is perfect. (and great eating!)
