Donec eu mi sed

On the first weekend in May, our neighbors, the Sendelbachs, always host a neighborhood Kentucky Derby party. Marri Anne Fedorchak brought this Kentucky Pie to the gathering this year. It is very different, and very wonderful, particularly if you're a chocolate person.

Notes on the recipe are Marri Anne's.

Kentucky Pie

Prepared pie shells: Makes 2 deep-dish or 3 regular 9 inch pies

4 eggs - slightly beaten
2 c sugar
1 (12 oz) pkg semisweet chocolate chips
1 c self-rising flour
1 c butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 c chopped pecans

1. Melt chocolate with butter and cool a little.
2. Combine eggs, sugar, vanilla and chocolate-butter mix in a large bowl. Add flour and mix well. Stir in nuts.
3. Divide among pie shells.

Bake 30 - 40 minutes at 350°

Marri Anne: Mine seemed runny so I baked it longer and checked at 5 minute intervals. It took around 45 minutes for the toothpick to come out looking good without runny stuff.
