There are many variations of "Mud" pie. But as far as I know, all Mud Pies are chilled pies. Some even have ice cream in them and must be frozen.
Mud Pie
1 chocolate crumb crust (8-9 inches)
3 (1 oz) squares semisweet chocolate
1/4 c sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds)
2 cups cold milk
2 packages (3.9 ounces each) instant chocolate pudding mix
1 8-oz carton frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
1. In a microwave, melt chocolate in a bowl.

Stir in condensed milk until smooth.

Pour into crust; sprinkle with nuts
4. In a small bowl, whisk milk and pudding mixes for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.

Carefully spread 1 and 1/2 cups of pudding mixture over nuts.
4. Fold 1/2 cup whipped topping into the remaining pudding mixture.

Carefully spread mix over pudding layer.
6. Layer the remaining whipped topping on top.
7.
Chill until set.
