Pat deLettre sent me this recipe. Pat is the president of my college sorority alumnae chapter, and we both like food. I am not good at pie crust. I have never been good at pie crust. Pat says this recipe will cure me. The recipe is new to me, a bit different from the hundred or so other pie crust recipes I’ve tried. Maybe there’s hope.

Never Fail Pie Crust

3 c all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt
1 c vegetable shortening
1 beaten egg
5 T cold water
1 T vinegar

1. Sift together 3 flour and salt into a medium bowl.

2. Blend or cut the vegetable shortening into the flour mixture.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together egg, water, and vinegar.

4. Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Stir until it forms a ball.

Makes 1 two-crust pie or 2 single pie crusts.
